Favela Kick follows a boy born poor in Brazil with a gift for football and little else, from kickabouts in the favela to the day a scout notices, then up through the ranks of the Brazilian game and out to France, England and Spain if you're good enough. This is a story-driven career rather than a match engine to be gamed. Cutscenes carry the big moments, and hard decisions sit between them, some with consequences you can't walk back. Setbacks arrive unannounced. The pixel art is plain and warm, which suits a game more interested in a household's circumstances than in stat sheets, and it points where every Brazilian football story points: the national shirt. Ten languages, Portuguese among them.
